A recipe introduces a set of directions, a formula, a method, a procedure, a technique, and an inquiry. My family recipes are secrets only granted to those inside the circle passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter and daughter-in-law. These recipes have long been secrets, reserved only for the women to know and to pass down from generation to generation as a way to continue family and maternal hospitality traditions. In site-specific locations where people rush through their seemingly mundane daily routines- the train station, the grocery store, the sports event, I leave traces of the recipes as an offering. Sifted flour and various spices onto a stenciled text offers recipe to the public for a short moment in time and place.
